Verifying Hardware Authenticity Before You Pay
Five checks that can be completed before funds move and that most counterfeit supply cannot survive.
Ask for Serials Before Shipment
A supplier holding stock can provide serials before packing. A supplier who can only provide them after delivery is usually not holding the stock they are quoting.
Validate Serials Against the Vendor
Serial numbers can be checked against vendor entitlement portals. A serial that returns no record or returns a record inconsistent with the described product is a stop signal.
Photograph the Seal
Request a photograph of the sealed carton showing the label and seal. This is a normal request and a legitimate supplier will not find it unusual.
Check Label Consistency
Part number description country of origin and serial should agree between the carton label the unit label and the quotation. Disagreement between any two is worth pausing over.
Confirm Support Registration Is Possible
If the unit genuinely came through the official channel then support registration under the end user name is possible. If the supplier deflects this question the provenance is worth questioning.
